About Me
I am originally from California and earned my AS degree in American Sign Language with Berkeley City College in May 2014, during which time I also began volunteering at the California School for the Deaf in Fremont. Shortly after, I moved to New York and went on to complete my bachelor's degree in American Sign Language-English Interpreting (May 2017) at RIT. After graduation I was accepted into a one year apprenticeship program with the university. I also had the opportunity to interpret abroad at one of RIT's global campuses in Croatia for one semester following the apprenticeship program (fall 2018).
In the years following my graduation, I've contracted with several agencies in the western NY area and gained experience interpreting medical appointments, business meetings, tours, special events, and more. In 2019 I joined Convo Relay and went on to work two years as a VRS interpreter while continuing to freelance. I left Convo in early 2021 and moved back home to California a few months later to continue my career on the west coast. I have now contracted with a number of local agencies in CA and had the opportunity to do designated interpreter work at UC Santa Cruz. I am currently set up to interpret virtual assignments from my home office, but also commute for local in-person work. I passed my NIC in July of 2022.
Outside of work, I enjoy hiking with my partner and dog, writing and making art. I am an outspoken advocate for accessibility in every arena as well as raising awareness for queer and transgender issues. I believe in the power of intentional community, mutual aid and sustainable living. I absolutely love my work and feel lucky that I'm able to do it!
